The Billy Blagg Annual Advent Calendar is a celebration of that most-maligned artefact - the Christmas song.
Every year without fail, I hear people complaining about 'hearing the same songs every year' but the Calendar is here to give lie to that.
Running every day in December from 1st to the 25th is a different Christmas tune; some chestnuts you may not have heard but find you will want to return to every Yuletide, a few turkeys that will amuse or annoy, some festive and tasty background morsels that you can just enjoy as you're peeling the sprouts, and - yes! - the odd rancid leftover you wish you'd put in the bin earlier. This is the 19th running of the Calendar meaning there are (for those of you not so good on maths) over 475 different songs available here for your Christmas smorgasbord. There are no duplicates - though obviously some differing versions of familiar favourites - and my elves work hard to find different genres and different things to enjoy... although I use the word 'enjoy' loosely in some cases
Just a reminder that every song that is available can be found on my corresponding Spotify playlist, but please be aware that there will always be one or two that aren't on streaming services. There's one list for ever year, and while I fully understand that listening on streaming is the way most people get their music nowadays, in my humble opinion - and let's face it opinions don't come much humbler than mine - the Calendar website here, is the best place to enjoy things.
Here you can listen and, for the most part, see videos of the songs - very few songs aren't available on YouTube or somewhere on the web now - but more importantly, you can enjoy the songs alongside some stories, some Christmas-related photos, but more importantly that ever-warming festive badinage. Cats are always welcome!
